An act or instance of leading, guidance, or direction. Leadership has been described as a process of social influence in which one person can enlist the support of others in the accomplishment of a common task or organize a group to achieve a common goal. The theory of situational leadership was developed by Paul Hersey, professor and author of the book Situational Leaders, and Ken Blanchard, Leadership guru and author of The One Minute Manager, while working on the first edition of Management of Organizational Behavior. The theory was first introduced as "Life Cycle Theory of Leadership," and later renamed "Situational Leadership Theory." The fundamental underpinning of the situational theory is that there is no single best style of leadership. Effective leadership varies, not only with the person or group that is being influenced, but also depends on the task, job, or function that needs to be accomplished
Peter Drucker famously stated that "management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things."
